Silver Sands State Park, Milford, Connecticut:

In 1955, Hurricane Diane destroyed 75 homes on Milford’s shoreline. As a result, Connecticut’s State Park system acquired about 300 acres of beachfront property. By 1960, Silver Sands became the state’s fourth park bordering Long Island Sound. The open space is highlighted by boardwalks, bird sanctuaries and a tombolo providing access to Charles Island (part of the State Park). Silver Sands also includes a segment of the East Coast Greenway, a pedestrian and bicycle route from Maine to Florida.
