Cheney Building, Hartford, Connecticut:

This Main Street mainstay was built in 1876. It was the masterpiece of Henry Hobson Richardson, known for his own architectural style: Richardsonian Romanesque. The project was commissioned by Frank and Rush Cheney, brothers of a silk manufacturers. They purchased the property for a total of $110,000. The seven-story structure was constructed of quarry-faced brownstone with white limestone accents. The property has been home to bygone department stores including Brown & Thompson Co. and G. Fox & Co. Nowadays, City Steam Brewery rents the main level and uses the basement as a comedy club.
