Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church, New Haven, Connecticut:
Starting as a mission, Holy Transfiguration became a parish in 1915 on Dixwell Avenue. Then, the Orthodox community built a new church in 1966. The cross-shaped church in Westville was designed in a poured-concrete Brutalist architectural style. The first services on Alden Avenue were held on Orthodox Christmas Eve, Jan. 6, 1967. However the fiberglass dome leaked, creating problems for the parish for decades. The unique dome was fully restored in 2012.
