Olympia Diner, Newington, Connecticut:

In 1954, Olympia Diner on the Berlin Turnpike was established by the Jerry O’Mahony Diner Company of New Jersey. The company produced more than 2,000 diners from 1917 to 1941. These roadside diners were primarily metal buildings, prefabricated in a factory and trucked to the location.

Locals affectionately call the diner “The OD” which has been owned by three families: the Kritikos and the Goulias for 10 years each, and since 1974 the current owners have been the Gavrilis family. The diner was featured in two major works of cinema: Promises in the Dark (1979) starring Marcia Mason and Jacknife (1989) starring Robert DeNiro.
