Captain Stannard House, Westbrook, Connecticut:
This ornate Federal style home at 138 Main Street was built in 1872 for a prominent sea captain named Elbert Stannard. A cupola atop the roof mimics a crow’s nest of a seafaring vessel. The house has welcomed guests for over 150 years as an inn. It was previously called Holly’s Barn Dance Hall, the St. Charles Inn, Kingsley Hall, Menunketesuck Inn, and finally Captain Stannard House Bed and Breakfast Country Inn. The property is now a private residence.
